An Independent Non-Profit Supporting Newton Seniors for over 30 years

The Senior Citizens Fund of Newton is an independent non profit organization (501c3) providing supplemental funding for programs and services needs of the Newton Seniors. The Fund complies with all required annual reporting to the Public Charities Division of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the IRS.

Over the past years, the Fund has enabled the Newton Senior Center to pilot new programs and acquire furniture, equipment and other items that are not funded by other city sources.

Funds are also used to support seniors in emergency situations to assist with purchase of medications, home improvements, and utility bills.

NewCAL (New Center for Active Living) coming in 2024,will open up new programming and service opportunities.

Celebrating Jayne Colino, Newton's recently retired Director of Senior Services

JayneColino-1.jpeg

After 32 years of outstanding leadership Jayne Colino has retired as Newton’s Director of Senior Services.

Jayne has been a leader in the Commonwealth among Senior Services Directors. Many Newtonians will have their own special memories of being with Jayne, whether working with her to establish the original Senior Center, standing alongside Jayne to hand out turkey dinners, sharing a heart to heart with her about the aging process, or her welcome smile and infectious laugh. We shall all miss her.

Over the years, Jayne implemented a wide array of programs offered by the Senior Center, and most recently has been a driving force in advocating and planning for a new Senior Center (NewCal) scheduled to open 2024.

To honor Jayne, we are establishing The Jayne Colino Fund, as a part of the Senior Citizens Fund of Newton, to help support Senior Center programming.

If you would like to join us in showing your gratitude towards Jayne, we welcome tax-deductible contributions to the Colino Fund. DONATE online, or send a check payable to the Senior Citizens Fund of Newton, P.O. Box 600488, Newtonville, MA 02460 (please add note on check: “Jayne Colino Fund”).

NewCAL  (New Center for Active Living)
to be completed in 2024

The aging population of Newton is the largest and fastest growing segment of our community.  After over four years of planning and public input, the City of Newton is constructing a new state of the art building known as NewCAL  (New Center for Active Living) to replace the current Newton Senior Center at 345 Walnut Street, Newtonville.  Expected to be completed by 2024, the new building will feature increased space for programs, meetings, services and recreation. Older citizens and the community at large will benefit from this beautiful new facility.

To learn more about the project, see the City of Newton website.
